Blaikie House Bed & Breakfast

Step back in time… Blaikie House Bed & Breakfast is a 23 room Queen Anne Revival Victorian Family Home located in West Colchester County on the shore of the Minas Basin.

Built by John M. Blaikie, builder of Canada's first four-masted Bark, Blaikie House is a fine example of the wealth and status once enjoyed by Great Village as the Port of Londonderry and is a testament to Nova Scotia's Ship Building Heritage.

Owned and operated by Sarah Paterson and Michael Burnett, Blaikie House offers a true Victorian experience to its guests. From its large Mahogany trimmed Great Rooms to the four large well-appointed bedrooms, you will feel as though you have stepped back to 1870.

The guest rooms are tastefully decorated with a fresh Victorian flare, three with Queen size beds and one with twin beds, all with two shared 4-piece baths, Victorian style.

The Red Room:
Stately elegance of a simplicity that allows the most modern mind to relax, this room is spacious and sedate, with rich red and subtle gold. East Coast light streams through lace valanced, six-foot tall windows, across the planked floor to where the room quiets with the hush of a tapestry carpet.

The Yellow Room:
The palest of yellows in the duvet and shams echo and blend with the soft pinks in the wallpaper, carved dark wood bedstead stands as a subtle reminder of the external grandeur of the house. The original rosewood shutters and two Eastlake chairs give a private feel to the room while offering intimate conversation for two.

The Blue Room:
The Blue room, named for the damask-striped coverlet atop the pillow-top mattress-as well as for its former collection of layered paint and mixed wallpapers - offers the extra luxury, privacy and convenience of an in-room pedestal sink.

The Green Room:
With Twinned Sleigh beds for travelling companions and the original rosewood shutters on the windows, the Green Room is a perfect place to relax and to refresh yourself.

Two Four-Piece Shared Baths
The main bath, upstairs, lets you enjoy the look of the Water Closet style commode combined with the ease of fully modern plumbing. A refinished 19th century pedestal tub hosts a lace-curtained shower.

The 2nd bath is located in the former Servants' quarters of the house, a few steps away from the Blue and Green rooms. It has a 1920's tub with lace-curtained shower, a spacious vanity and mirror. All guests have their choice of both baths.

The common rooms in the house: the two parlours, library, and dining room, are also the height of 1870's charm and are available to our guest to relax and enjoy the atmosphere.

Your overnight stay includes a full breakfast served in the formal dining room. Our menu includes traditional repast as well as Victorian favourites and we are vegetarian friendly.

Blaikie House can also accommodate intimate WEDDINGS, Birthday Tea Parties, and Small Office Christmas Parties, call or email us with any requests and we will do our best to accommodate.

Despite the opulence of this elegant house it remains a family home with Maritime hospitality.
