Spanish Homestay Programs Santiago de Cuba
Students, non-students or simple visitors to Santiago de Cuba can register for short or long-term placements with Academia Caribe Our homestay coordinators will match you with a homestay family that suits your personal needs. Our host families have been carefully selected because of their kindness, generosity and willingness to open their homes, and their lives, to share with a homestay student and traveller. While in the host family's care.
There is a non-refundable 55 Euros placement fee that is paid at the time of registration. You pay a homestay fee directly to your host family. This amount is 25 Euros per day.The homestay cost includes a comfortable private bedroom and regular Spanish conversation with homestay family members.
Upon arrival in your homestay, you will pay the homestay fee to your homestay family. Once you have occupied your homestay, there are no refunds of the homestay fee.
Optional costs include airport pick-up and meals. You may select these options on the housing application.
The 55 Euros Homestay Placement Fee is non-refundable even if you do not come to Santiago de Cuba. This is because most of the placement work (e.g., interviewing families, visiting homes, matching student and family profiles) is done before you even meet your host family.
Your Trip to Cuba
We strongly recommend visitors to take out comprehensive travel and medical insurance in their country of origin to cover any loss, sickness or accident, which may occur during the course.
US Dollars will NOT be accepted in Cuba, and you will be charged 10% commission on exchanging them.
Traveller's cheques and/or credit cards drawn on American banks are also NOT accepted. But Euro or Sterling Travellers' cheques drawn on UK banks are accepted at Cuban banks and Bureaux de Change.
You should also ensure that you have 25 Convertible Pesos (CUCs) per person for payment of departure tax at the airport. US dollars will not be accepted.
The tourist visa is valid for an entrance and exit from Cuba and last for 30 days. The counting starts on the arrival date to Cuba, with the possibility to extend it for other 30 days. This can be done in the Cuban Immigration Office (Dirección de Inmigración y Extranjería); paying the 25 Pesos Convertibles fixed charge in stamps that can be acquired in any branch of the Credit and Commerce Bank.
