The Brownlow Bed & Breakfast
The Brownlow at Ivinghoe was built in the early 1800's by Lord Brownlow to serve the newly finished Grand Union Canal. It was also well renowned as been a popular local pub named The Brownlow Arms. The pub closed its doors for the last time in the early 60's and was converted into a family home. The Brownlow has remained in the same family since it was originally built.
The old stables have now been converted into luxury accommodation - retaining many original features and plenty of character. As The Brownlow is situated by the canal with a long driveway to the property, it maintains a very private and picturesque location. There are several local attractions nearby and whether it may be business or pleasure, we are sure you will enjoy your stay with us. Here are some places of interest:
Pitstone Windmill - beautifully situated beneath the Chiltern Hills, near the delightful village of Ivinghoe. This mill is one of the oldest in England. Owned by the National Trust and restored to working order by volunteers, is a living tribute to the village craftsmen who built and worked it during a bygone age.
Woburn Abbey - A beautiful stately home set in a 3,000 acre deep park and home to the Dukes of Bedford for nearly 400 years.
Woburn Golf Club is well known for its three championship courses. Anyone who plays golf would not like to miss this one - only 10 miles away.
Champneys Tring Health Farm - only six miles from The Brownlow. Tring offers a unique experience for those looking for a haven away from everyday pressures. Why not treat yourself to one of the many health and beauty treatments on offer.
Mentmore Golf and Country Club is only two miles from The Brownlow where it lies in the shadow of Mentmore Towers, the magnificent country home built for Baron Meyer Amschel de Rothschild. The two superb 18 hole courses, The Rothschild and The Rosebery are played over rolling parkland and feature lakes, woods and spinneys.
Whipsnade Zoo - One of Europe's largest wildlife conservation parks covering more than 600 acres and home to more than 2,500 animals including many endangered species.
Ivinghoe Beacon - The Ridgeway - a prominent hill and landmark in the Chiltern Hills standing 249 m above sea level. The Beacon is a popular weekend spot for walkers, sightseers and model aircraft enthusiasts. The beacon lies very close to the borders of nearby Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire and is higher than any point in these neighbouring counties.
