Brook Cottage
Brook Cottage dates back to the 18th century and is thought to be a Devon Cross Passage House. It is set in a very pretty garden which you are welcome to explore, Dartmoor, Exmoor and the coast are all within easy reach or if you wish you may just sit and enjoy the peace and tranquillity, interrupted only by the sound of birds, the trickle of the little stream and the very occasional passing car or tractor.
On your arrival we provide afternoon tea which you can have in your room, the dining room or if the weather is fine, the garden. After a comfortable night, wake to a hearty Full English or Continental breakfast which will set you up for your day's exploration.
The village of Northlew is within easy reach of Dartmoor, Exmoor and the coast and you will find in your room a folder showing many places of interest which you might like to visit. If you wish us to make a dinner reservation at a local restaurant, we will be pleased to do that for you.
The nearby market town of Hatherleigh is well worth a visit especially on Tuesday when the general market is held. It has two very good Inns, The George and The Tally Ho, both of which serve excellent food. Okehampton is also quite near, with its romantic ruined castle, and it has a number restaurants and cafes as well as many interesting shops.
You might like to visit the lovely Stannery town of Tavistock which has a very good pannier market every day except for Sunday and Monday. If you are a garden lover, then R.H.S. Rosemoor is about half an hour away, as is Torrington which has the famous Dartington Glass factory, and a very entertaining historical exhibition, Torrington 1646.
We are very close to Dartmoor, Exmoor and the coast. There are also numerous cycling/walking routes close by, such as the Granite Way and the Tarka Trail.
