Les Douvres Hotel

Les Douvres Hotel is ideally situated in the quiet St Martins parish, in the southeast corner of the island, and referred to by many visitors as the most beautiful part of Guernsey.

History of this enchanting hotel backdates to 1274 and has been thoroughly studied by the family who currently owns and manages the establishment.

It's story marks the progressive passage of time and it's chequered past shows an almost chameleon effect upon the building to include a smugglers retreat, a quaint manor house to one of the bailiffs of Guernsey, a German Hospital during the occupation to the Olde Worlde intriguing hotel it is today.

It is set in its own Private Grounds and is in an ideal position for exploring the magnificent South Coast Bays and cliffs walks, with views extending as far as the near by French Coast, with the Islands of Herm, Jethou and Sark in the foreground.

Saints Bay, with its tiny Fishing Harbour is close by and the main town and capital of St Peter Port is within ten minutes drive by car (approximately 2.5 miles). An excellent bus service passes the Hotel at regular intervals but the Hotel also offers a private mini bus service for guests.

Children are most welcome as family rooms are available.

After extensive building works designed and performed in 1980 by the family and further refurbishments in 1996, the Hotel was upgraded by the Guernsey Tourist Board to a three star establishment. The business has recently been taken over by the daughters, Lisa and Natasha Spinks, who have also just performed maintenance work on this well loved member of the family, retaining its unique character.

The Restaurant is well known throughout the Island for its high standards and excellent cuisine. It features a varied Table D'Hote Menu covering a variety of English and Continental dishes. For guests on Bed and Breakfast terms or for that special occasion, we offer a comprehensive Á La Carte featuring local Fresh Seafood and Flambé Specialities. An extensive Wine List is available.

The Bar is situated on the ground floor and is of immense character with its Olde Worlde beams and original Date Stone displaying 1723. Drinks are served throughout the day and evening and a comprehensive Bar Lunch Menu is available daily. As the Bar is open to the Public, Guests are able to meet and chat with the Locals in a most convivial atmosphere.

Twenty-eight well-appointed bedrooms each with Private Bathroom facilities are provided. They are mainly situated on the first and second floors, but with two ground floor rooms. Each has a colour TV; Hairdryer; Tea/Coffee making facilities; Direct Dial Telephone and Central Heating.

The Island of Guernsey is situated in the middle of the Channel Islands some 70 miles south of the English Coast and within sight of the French Coast some 25 miles to the east. Guernsey combines the English and French way of living, taking some of the best from both cultures and combining this with is own independent character.
