Wheatcroft Bed & Breakfast
Wheatcroft, a late Victorian house with a pretty garden offers superior guest accommodation in the beautiful Hertfordshire village of Much Hadham.
The village is renowned for the fine medieval church of St Andrew and Holy Cross that is shared between both Catholics and Anglicans, which is fairly unusual. Next to the church is The Palace which in the Middle Ages belonged to the Bishop of London.
Opposite the Bull pub is The Hall, a fine 18th century house and in the middle of the village is Moore Place, another beautiful house in extensive grounds with an interesting history.
There is a wealth of fine 17th and 18th century houses, pretty timbered cottages and 19th century almshouses. Hopley's Garden centre, famous for producing the red Potentilla, is at the north end of the High street. In the nearby hamlet of Perry Green is the Henry Moore Foundation visited by thousands of modern art enthusiasts from all over the world.
The impressive sculptures can be seen in the open fields from the foot paths but conducted tours of the house and work shops can be booked.
In addition to their own suite of rooms comprising bed room with double bed, TV , cot and small single bed, dressing room and shower room, guests are welcome to use the garden, conservatory and sitting room. A second double bed room with its own private bath room is also available. Long term parking can be arranged.
Within easy walking distance there are 2 fine pubs serving excellent food, a hairdressers and village shop with post office. Great Hadham golf club is nearby and keen walkers can explore the many footpaths in the surrounding countryside.
The M11 gives easy access to Stansted airport, Cambridge and London.
Hatfield House, Audley End, Knebworth and the Imperial War Museum at Duxford are only a short drive away. The nearby market town of Bishops Stortford is a good shopping centre and has rail links to both the airport, London, Cambridge and the East of England.
It is possible to take the train from Stansted airport to Cambridge, Ely, Peterborough, Stamford and numerous other places of interest.
