The Bear Guest House.
The Bear is a Georgian building, 200 years old, centrally located opposite the railway station, and overlooking the beach.
We are a small guesthouse, with only 6 letting rooms, and no, sorry, en-suites are not available.
In short, we are a basic, friendly, family run operation...but I would like to reassure you we do have indoor loo's and hot water.
All our guest rooms are smoking rooms, and we do sometimes take pets at the owner's discretion.
Housetrained Contractor's also welcome, at £17.00 pppn on a room only basis.
Dinner is available by prior arrangement. Breakfast is optional and is not a full english.
Margate is as close to Calais as it is to London, so there's an opportunity to take a ferry to France providing you bring your passport. The castle in Dover is quite a sight. Canterbury Cathedral isn't too far. Whitstable is the place for your fish restaurants, and Ramsgate is a short bus ride away. Sandwich is a pretty little place for a stroll and a drink, and Broadstairs too is pretty close. (That's where they filmed the advert for 'e-on power'....where the people are all being blown away.)
Margate is at it's best when the sun is shining, as are most places. But if the sea is as fascinating to you in all it's moods, as it was to Turner, then we have miles of coastline to explore.
Also, Quex House is a few miles down the road, and the Manston Air Museum is close too.
Phone us with any questions you may have, as we find the phone is more direct than e-mail, and we are happy to help wherever possible.
Having said all that, our house offers accommodation for guests on a budget, who rate clean sheets and rooms and the personal touch above en-suites and gold plated bathroom fittings, but whatever and wherever you choose to stay, enjoy the area, and have a good trip!
