Just about everybody says 'wow!' when they enter this guest house. It is no wonder that it won a conservation award from the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and that Border TV has featured it in its property and gardening programmes.

The rooms are always cosy and the whole building has under-floor heating as well as a massive woodburning stove in the lounge. If you have been walking a bit of the Pennine Way your clothes can be washed and dried overnight.

Mary and David enjoy food and they only use good ingredients in their meals. The main items being sourced locally. If you are cycling the Pennine Cyclway your cycles can be stowed indoors.

The parking behind the chapel is safe enough if you have arrived by motorbike. Dutch bikers often drop in here.

Hadrians Wall, now a world heritage site, is 10 miles away and takes about 20 mins to get there. During the summer months you can watch or even take part in a dig. A very spiritual place on the wall is Sycamore Gap where 'Robin Hood Prince of Thieves' was filmed.

otable gardens in the area include: The walled garden at Wallington, the Quarry garden at Belsay, Dalemain and Langley Station Garden. There is a botanical nature reserve at the edge of the village. Birds flock to the garden the favourite regular visitor being the large woodpecker. Close by , birds of prey are often about and the fallow deer are there too but less easy to spot.

Stained Glass Classes are held here too. There is a regular weekly class. From time to time intensive weekend classes take place. There is even an antique boudoir grand piano available for guests to play. Can't play? No problem it is a pianola!
