Every room has pictures by local artists to provide a rich depth to the experience of the character of the gorge, and of Shropshire.
The gorge, now heavily wooded, green and pleasant was with out question pivotal in the making of this country and in changing the wider world. Huge iron foundries and furnaces blazed away 24 hours a day, and over 150 barges went up and down the river carrying steal, iron and coal. The population of miners, Dockers and steel workers made for a tough breed of men. For it was here that the men of Shropshire fashioned the new world of the industrial revolution that has spread the whole world over, far beyond the fields and forests of Shropshire.
Even today prosperity is being created through the discoveries made here hundreds of years ago.
Blists Hill Victorian town is a fine museum and a splendid place to experience the life as Victorians new it. Don't forget to change your money at the gate.
