Jacoby Cottage
Jacoby Cottage was built around 1480, and is probably the oldest private house in Glastonbury. It was a chapel of the great Abbey where monks welcomed pilgrims. A medieval chapel is not a large building, so an extension was added in Edwardian times, which overlooks the extensive garden and orchard. Throughout, the house has kept an aura of calm, beauty and comfort.
Its age is not the only unusual thing about Jacoby Cottage. It is also a house run by women for women - men are welcome day visitors, but the accommodation is for women only.
We welcome women coming to attend courses, seminars and workshops in Glastonbury or having a short break. We also specialise in longer stays/personal retreats and offer discounts for stays of 7 days and over.
Guests are welcome to enjoy the gardens and orchard (with Poetry Shack, fire pit, and picnic areas). They can also use the kitchen in the house to prepare simple meals and check their email using our broadband connection.
Jacoby Cottage is a no-smoking space - smokers are expected to smoke in the garden.
Please note: There is no television but we can lend you a CD player and you can watch DVDs on computer screens.
We are an award winning environmentally and socially responsible business: our vegetarian breakfast consists of organic, local or fair trade ingredients, we source our power renewably, minimise and recycle all our wastes, bank with ethical financial institutions and our phone and broadband connection is with the Phone Coop. Many of the paints & finishes in the house are ecofriendly.
Jacoby Cottage offer accommodation to women only. We have 1 twin room (with a double as well as a single bed). It can be booked for single occupation at no extra charge as we do not wish to discriminate against single travellers.
Breakfast is vegetarian and consists of fruit juice, fruit, yogurt, choice of several cereals, toast, cheese, jams, honey, savoury spreads and any hot drinks you fancy (within reason!). It is as organic, fairly traded and/or locally produced as possible. Good for you and good for the planet. Vegan option always available.
