Gallipoli nel Salento

The B&B Saint Venardia is inside a small Agricultural Firm, devoted in the winter months to the cultivation of the mushroom Cardoncello. The reception is that of a real B&B family management, taken care of by a young couple with a son.

The house is typically Mediterranean; it has three rooms just restructured. Surrounded by an uliveto (countryside with olive trees), the distance from the Beach Lido S. Giovanni and from the centre of the city is of about 1.500 metres. Our B&B is in Gallìpoli's Arenas of Saint Venardia and it is set few hundred meters by the coast of the south coast road Gallipoli - Leuca.

Crossing the coast road in direction Leuca, you can see, beginning from the Lido S. Giovanni the most beautiful beaches of Gallipoli characterized by the elegant and gilded sand that is dissolved against the wild dunes and the rocks of the 'punta de Pizzo (the end of the coast).

If it is crossed contrarily it introduce you immediately on the waterfront Galileo Galilei that with its long walk actually animated by all kind of little dealers, music and attractions for kids, brings to the historical centre of the city: Kalè Polis, (beautiful city). This way the ancient Greek navigators called Gallipoli, the marvellous città/scoglio (city/rock) of the Messapis, absorbed in the blue of the Jonio sea.

A maze of lanes, among bleached houses or painted with the most solar colours of the Mediterranean. The continuous invasions have left an indelible trace in the city: the Hellenistic Fountain, the Angioino Castle, the Old Bridge that connects the island to the firm earth, the Cathedral of Sant'Agata.

The weaving of different cultures has enriched the city of religious and gastronomic traditions which are repeated each year to every recurrence and festivity like as Carnival, Easter, Christmas etc. Today Gallipolis is, over that a sealy harbour and big commercial centre, a dynamic tourist reference for the whole Salento, thanks to the bathing activity and the nautical equipments able to welcome boats of every class.
