Casa de Camelia
Welcome from Linda & Gary, we hope you will join us in this peaceful and relaxing area of Portugal. Stay in a typical Portuguese house in a village with good facilities including banks (with cash-points), mini supermarkets and restaurants which are all within walking distance.
We are situated in the Beiras region of Central Portugal just 25 minutes drive from Coimbra which was once the capital. Our village is midway between the lovely sandy beaches of Figuera de Foz and the mountains of the Serra de Estrela.
Go back in time to a place where the local people can be seen farming their land and eating the fresh fruit and vegetables. Sample the locally made wine and port which is available in the shops or café bars at extremely good prices.
The nearest large towns are Arganil and Penacova which both have a weekly market, and larger supermarkets.
Whether you are here on holiday or to view properties we are here to make your stay a pleasant experience.
We offer either twin bedroom or double bedroom accommodation with continental breakfast included for 30 euros per room per night in the low season (October to May) and 35 euros per room per night in the high season (June to September), with a shared bathroom with bath and shower.
Bath towels, hand towels and dressing gowns are provided but if you wish to go swimming please bring your own beach towels.
We have a large outdoor seating and dining area where the forno (bread oven) and barbecue are located. Here we host pizza nights where you can make your own pizzas, and cook then in the forno. (see gallery photos) Alternatively you can use the barbecue to cook the food of your choice including local sardines and other fresh fish or meat.
We also have a large sun terrace which is lovely for watching the sun going down or star gazing.
If you are touring on motorbikes we can offer secure covered parking for your peace of mind.
Whether you are here to relax or tour the area there is something for everyone. Wherever you go you will be greeted by the friendly local people.
From pretty villages to the city of Coimbra and the Roman ruins at Conimbriga there is lots to see and do.
Sit at one of the many café bars and watch the world go by or try the food including bacalhau (dried cod) or chanfana (goat).
Nearby there is a lovely river beach with an outdoor bar with a restaurant upstairs.
There are many rivers and reservoirs within the area for those that enjoy water-sports or fishing, and canoes / kayaks can be hired during the summer months.
Also during the summer months there is mountain biking at various locations, whilst in the winter you can go skiing in the Serra de Estrela mountains which is the highest peak in Portugal at 1993 metres.
