Walston House
Walston House was built in 1828 as the new manse for the parish of Walston. It is designed in the Georgian style and most original features have been retained.
It is now a listed private house and registered smallholding.
Its historic church, no longer used for worship, dates from 1789 and is situated in front of the house providing a beautiful setting to the tranquil views across the Medwin Valley . Guests often enjoy a stroll round the church and its interesting graveyard.
The residents' sitting room is warm and comfortable with a continually burning stove and uninterrupted views across the valley to the front and to the walled garden at the side.
We promote the work of local artists and often we display exhibits from a nearby gallery.
The house is centrally heated and all rooms have additional adjustable heating.
The peaceful atmosphere is enhanced by our no smoking policy.
Our delicious breakfasts are cooked in the country kitchen on the Aga using no added fats or oils.
They are served either in the private dining areas or on fine days in the courtyard or in the walled garden.
We serve a variety of Scottish and continental breads for toasting, croissants with a selection of jams and marmalades and cereals and muesli.
Our free range meats are supplied by the award winning butcher Findlays of Portobello, and include sweet cured bacon, French country or Scottish venison sausages depending on the season, Scottish Champion prize winning haggis and black pudding. We also serve organic eggs, tomatoes, mushrooms and other seasonal vegetables and fruits. We have a selection of teas and coffee is made in Italian Bialetti coffee makers. All tables are laid with cotton and linen napkins.
Our bedrooms are very comfortable and tastefully furnished. We only use pure cotton bed linen with feather and down pillows. We can also provide non-allergenic bedding if required. Each room has either private or adjacent bathroom with new state of the art facilities including bath and shower. All rooms have tea and coffee making facilities with china crockery, television and radio and hairdryer. Our rooms are either double or family [double plus single bed] and cots are available on request.
