Skamokawa is a 'blink-and-you'll-miss-it' hamlet on the lower Columbia River. In the not-so-distant past the local economy was based on agriculture and fishing. Today's agriculture is changing, as dairies have given way to a new wave of smallholders raising organic vegetables and pasture-raised, hormone-free beef, pork and poultry. Tourism has become a larger part of the economy, as this last, best place is becoming known for kayaking and canoeing. Professional Kayak instruction is available locally, Deer and Elk hunting are popular, as is salmon fishing on the lower Columbia.
