Wildernest Inn Bed & Breakfast
Accommodations include six beautifully decorated bedrooms each with private baths, located on the second floor.
There is a sitting room and adjacent deck with spiral staircase that brings you to the main deck below.
The dining room, great room, decks and bedrooms in the rear of the Inn have magnificent westward views overlooking the South Mill Creek Lake and the mountain ranges beyond.
Front rooms overlook forest where deer can often be seen. Meals can be served inside or weather-permitting on the deck, where one can enjoy spectacular sunsets and later delight in the secluded / private hot tub under brilliant star-filled skies (towels and robes provided).
For your comfort the Inn has both air conditioning and heating and features ten-foot ceilings, as well as skylights and hardwood floors throughout the first floor.
The Great Room has comfortable couches, rockers and recliners where you're welcome to put your feet up, relax beside the fire with a book, watch Direct TV, DVD or perhaps you'd just like to take in the spectacular views.
The recreation room located in the finished basement has a pool table, darts, board games and cards for your enjoyment.
For your entertainment you're invited to relax on comfortable sofas beside the fire and either choose from a variety of books or select from a wide range of videos where there is something to suit all tastes.
Although Wildernest is a non-smoking household, smoking is permitted in designated areas outdoors where seating and ashtrays are provided.
Primarily an adult facility, we regret we do not cater to children. Wildwood Cabin, Eagles Haven and Bears Den, all self catering vacation rentals cater to families.
Throughout the Inn you'll find original water colors by well-known South African artist, Sheilagh Cormack.
Included is an early morning breakfast buffet for those early birds followed by a full, made-to-order breakfast served between 8:30-9:30am. Coffee and tea are available all day. Dinners are available by reservation Tuesday-Sunday. Dining both outdoors and indoors.
Located between the George Washington and Monongahela National Forests and within thousands of acres of natural forest, Wildernest Inn, Wildernest Lodge and Wildwood Cabin are secluded hideaways on 1200 forested acres.
One can watch the hawks soaring in the sky, deer at the pond, periodic parades of wild turkey and visits by curious black bears.
You can enjoy quiet time, either in the private spaces of the Inn itself or wandering through the beautiful acreage with marked hiking trails.
At the bottom of the property is the almost mile-long South Mill Creek Lake where guests can make use of the Wildernest canoe and limited fishing gear.
In addition there is a two-mile nature trail around the lake for hiking or jogging and of course there's trout and bass fishing.
There are many natural attractions nearby, such as the Dolly Sods Wilderness Area, the Smoke Hole and Big Bend Recreation Areas, Seneca Rocks (for rock climbing, hiking and horseback riding), Spruce Knob and both the Seneca and Smoke Hole Caverns.
There are 2 18-hole golf courses, within a 20-minute drive. Canoe and kayak rentals are available nearby for river trips. Flea markets, antique and craft shops are located in the nearby towns. Local fairs and festivals take place throughout the Spring, Summer and Fall.
The Potomac Eagle train runs from Romney to Petersburg.
Your hosts will be happy to advise you and give you directions to further places of interest and the many hiking trails in the area.
