Ayana Fort Kochi effortlessly blends history with sophistication. Step into the past as you enter the 200-year-old courthouse in the heart of Fort Kochi and find a modern sanctuary in Ayana’s striking art deco renovation.
The old court house is situated on Bazaar Road, the oldest international trading market in India. For centuries this street has been the epicentre of the trade for the European, Arabs and Chinese merchants. Today it houses the ruins of British warehouses, interesting graffiti on the walls, dilapidated, but still ornate wooden doors and sharp fragrant smells of spices that are still traded today.
The hotel structure was constructed as court house and has been witness to many a court proceedings over the last two centuries. After its early days as a court house, the historical structure took on a new avatar as the first banking office of ANZ Grindlays, post which it has duly served as a warehouse for traders dealing in Kerala spices and teas.
Ayana inherited this structure only recently post which we have undertaken its restoration first and then its renovation into a luxury boutique hotel.
The court room has been painstakingly preserved, with each wooden plank restored and treated to create a grand lounge and welcome area for our guests. The extremely large sloping roof is supported by an intricate mechanism of iron tubes that is representation of the ingenious architecture during the Portuguese occupation of Fort Kochi.
Our dedicated team invites you to come indulge in our especially curated luxury experiences and make the most of your time in vibrant Fort Kochi.
