Hotel Gault
Hotel Gault features 30 luxury rooms furnished with classic pieces from the 20th century. This boutique hotel in Montreal Canada is only moments away from downtown Montreal. Hotel Gault, Canada’s definitive boutique hotel, is located in a five-story historic edifice in Old Montreal’s booming west end. In 1871, A.F. Gault commissioned J.J. Browne to build a majestic headquarters for his flourishing import/export textile business.
Influenced by the Haussmann architecture of contemporary Paris, Browne proposed, for the façade, a Second Empire style, featuring vertical pilasters and floral details carved into Champlain blue-gray limestone. The elegant corner door invites guests into the large open lobby, where guests will find the magnificent 19th century cast-iron pillars, the sole remaining interior element from the original design.
The willowy elegance of these pillars, which are also located in certain suites, served as the main inspiration for this modern boutique hotel project. In the lobby, these columns are harmoniously paired against modern architectural materials, such as concrete and hot rolled steel. The lobby features an array of colourful chairs and a single bar/reception area that serves as the lobby’s centrepiece.
Hotel Gault unveiled the next step in its evolution in June 2002. Hotel Gault offers its guests contemporary design and unparalleled amenities in exceptionally spacious loft-style rooms that, unlike most of their present-day counterparts, do not forsake comfort at the expense of modernity.
