Lower House Guest House
Lower House has Georgian origins and is now a hybrid house with many original features from different periods. We have four letting rooms. Two of these are large family rooms with a double bed and a single bed. A travel cot is available. One of these rooms has an en suite bathroom, the other an en suite shower room.
We call these rooms 'Untitled' and 'Work in Progress'. The other two rooms are Opus 3b and Composition in Blue. Opus can be either a twin or a double room and Composition is a single room. Both have en suite shower rooms. All our rooms have freeview digital high definition televisions equipped with dvd players.
All our prices include Breakfast made from local and Fairtrade produce where possible.
We also offer evening meals and can provide food for all tastes and preferences. We carry little stock, preferring to buy ingredients to order, so we do need prior notification if you want to eat in the evening. For those wishing to eat out there is one of the best restaurants in Cornwall (Langmans) just a few doors away and a number of gastro-pubs a little further away.
We are also the home of Callington School of Art and many of our guests come here specifically to follow one of our art courses. Guests are welcome to visit the studio and see our collection of works, much of which is used to furnish the house and bedrooms.
Callington is an excellent centre from where to explore the eastern end of Cornwall. It lies close to the Devon border and the Tamar valley, itself an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, has a number of important tourist sites including Cotehele House (NT) and Morewelham Quay (part of the World Heritage Site) for mining. We are about 40 minutes drive from the Eden Project, a similar distance from the north coast, and slightly less from the south coast with its typically Cornish villages of Looe, Polperro and the twins, Kingsand and Cawsand.
For walkers the highlands of Bodmin moor and Dartmoor are within easy reach and offer a wide variety of paths for the serious long distance hikers or less demanding routes for the occasional walker. (We will help with drying you out if you get caught in the rain).
Golfers will find a number of excellent courses in the area including the renowned St Mellion with its two courses, which is just three miles away. Climbing is available both on the rocks and cliffs of the moors and there is an excellent indoor facility about five miles distant.
