The black and white decor features retro chrome and a sheepskin rug as big as a snoozing polar bear. It's a shady room, with trees almost brushing French windows and has a wide screen TV and spa bath.

We are close to Hawkshead and Sawry where the film 'Miss Potter' is set. Boat trips on lake Windermere start just a few hundred yards away and can be incorporated with tickets for the steam train or aquarium at the south end of the lake.

Walks start almost from our door step. Try the easy Loughrigg or Wansfell to the more demanding Fairfield horseshoe, all start within easy reach.

We are lucky that Ambleside has so many good restaurants from simple cafes to the more adventurous.
