Kenilworth Guest House, Windermere, English Lake District
Kenilworth Guest House is ideally situated for your stay in this most beautiful part of England.
The traditionally built slate house retains many period features, including tiled entrance hall with stained glass in the front door windows, and a grand original pine staircase. However, under our ownership the house has been completely refurbished and redecorated to offer warm and welcoming bed and breakfast accommodation, and has a 4 star grading from Visit Britain - do click through to our web-site to view our latest Quality Assessment report.
Your resident hosts, Chris and Christine Busby, are happy to help plan your visit, and there are maps, guidebooks and suggested touring itineraries to see the best the Lake District has to offer. If you do not have your own transport, organised tours can collect you from the door, or buses and boats offer a wide scope for getting around.
All of our guest rooms are centrally heated (with controllable thermostats) and fully double-glazed. All of our bedrooms are en-suite and fluffy towels and hairdryer are provided.
All bedrooms (six in total) have flat screen digital colour TV and refreshment tray with tea, coffee, herbal infusions and crunchy biscuits (delicious hot chocolate for the winter) , alarm clock and wineglasses, and our single bedroom has its own DVD player. We now have a spacious king-size double en-suite bedroom, with leather seating for extra comfort, in addition to doubles, twin, family and single rooms. Photographs of all of the bedrooms appear on our own web-site-click through to view our 'Bedrooms' page.
Our comfortable guests' lounge is on the ground floor, and has colour digital TV and a DVD player, maps, books and guides to the area.
Our breakfasts are cooked to order and we use local produce wherever possible - the Cumberland sausage is made at the local butcher's and the free-range eggs are delivered from the local farm. We serve a vegetarian alternative, and all meat and non-meat items are cooked and served separately. There is a wide selection of cereals, grapefruit, and fruit juice available too, with fresh granary or white toast and a plentiful supply of tea, coffee or herbal infusions.
We are situated within two minutes' walk of Windermere town centre, and are approximately 6-7 minutes' walk from the station. There is a wide choice of shops and eating establishments within Windermere, and a greater selection in Bowness, on the lakeshore.
There is a cinema and a selection of galleries and museums not far away, and stately homes and castles too.
Beatrix Potter's house (Hill Top) is accessible by a passenger ferry and mini-bus, and the Beatrix Potter Attraction is a short walk away from Kenilworth Guest House. Dove Cottage (William Wordsworth's house) is not far away in the pretty village of Grasmere.
On many of the lakes there are boat trips available-one of the most scenic being Ullswater-and of course there are walks to suit all ages and abilities, either from our door or a car or bus journey away.
For the more adventurous, try swinging through the trees at GoApe in Grizedale Forest, canoeing, sailing, cycling and rock climbing-all activities we can provide information about.
Rates from £34 to £40 per person per night bed and breakfast accommodation. Minimum age for children 4 years.
