Windermere and Bowness
Are pretty villages in the heart of the Southern Lake District in Cumbria. There is plenty to see and do here: the World of Beatrix Potter™ Attraction, the Windermere Steamboat Museum, The Old Laundry Theatre, Windermere Lake Cruises and, of course, beautiful scenery.
Further a field are the honey pot towns of Ambleside, Grasmere (where you will find Dove Cottage, the home of William Wordsworth), Coniston, Hawkshead and Keswick, which are all within easy reach of Crompton House if you're looking for a day out. The outskirts of Cumbria such as Carlisle, the Eden Valley, the Lake District Peninsulas of Furness and Cartmel, and Cumbria's west coast are also all worthy of visits, offering a diverse range of scenery and local attractions.
It's little wonder that the Lake District is England's most popular tourist destination outside London!
