Portland House Guest Accommodation
Surrounded by wonderful scenery and history to explore in an area of outstanding natural beauty; very near to the famous Symonds Yat Rock on the outskirts of the Forest of Dean. Portland House is uniquely placed within the Wye Valley just within Herefordshire and near to the borders of Gloucestershire and Monmouthshire. The House stands proudly at the centre of Whitchurch, conveniently between Ross on Wye (4 miles) to the North and Monmouth (3miles) to the South. 5 mins walk to River Wye - voted best river in the UK
The house itself has a wealth of character and charm; the oldest part of the house is early Georgian - not overly large but spacious enough for guests to feel relaxed and comfortable, and especially cosy during the autumn and winter months. You can relax in the interesting award winning garden or very attractive lounge. The ghost is friendly too.
Enjoy the elegant dining room and our wonderful and genuinely home cooked 3 course breakfasts with various types of Jenny's home made muesli and fruit compotes, and her home made bread and preserves. Dinner can be pre-booked by arrangement. We are licensed and very experienced at providing private dinners and functions, especially for family celebrations and group 'get togethers'. Just ask us for some references! We'll be happy to oblige.
The House has been graded as 4 stars by the AA and has been awarded a Green Business Award and Wildlife Action Award. As well as being awarded 5 stars for Hygiene Excellence under Food Hygiene Regulations.
For wheelchair users and people with limited mobility, The richly furnished Lloyd Suite, just off the ground floor hallway, was completely refurbished in 2005 to an extremely high standard and has been awarded a M2 level rating for accessibility for the disabled by the English Tourism Council.
