St Albans is a city steeped in history with its own twice-weekly market, bustling boutique shops, restaurants and pubs. Details on local museums, information on the St Albans Cathedral and general tourist information is available on the website.
London
The heart of London is only 20 minutes away by train. One of the world’s truly international cities offering everything a visitor could possibly wish for.
Hertfordshire
An ancient County with many sights and sounds for the visitor to savour, not least Hatfield House, built in 1611 and the favourite residence of Queen Elizabeth I.
Transport
CAR: St Albans is situated near where the M1 and M25 motorways meet which, coupled with the nearby Great North Road, the A1, provide fast routes to the northern counties of the UK. The M25 also links the city to the M4 (23 miles) for travel to the west of the UK, the M40 (18 miles) for the heart of England and mid Wales and the M11 (22 miles) for a fast route into East Anglia.
PLANE: For Airports, Heathrow is 24 miles away, Luton only 9 miles to the North (two stops by rail) and Stanstead 30 miles to the East. Gatwick is also available direct by rail through the heart of London as is St Pancras (20 mins) the International Rail Terminal for Eurostar.
TRAIN: Trains to London run every 5 minutes at peak times taking you right through the heart of the city - 20 minutes to St Pancras connecting to the Underground network and Eurostar, then 5 minutes more to Farringdon where you will find The Barbican and Smithfield market. Another five minutes gets you to St Pauls and then on to The River Thames at Blackfriars.
We are 30 minutes by train from the main stadia for the London Olympics, taking place during August and September 2012.
