Local Attractions
Mere Brook House is situated in between the famous cities of Chester (17 miles) and Liverpool (10 miles) where there are museums, cathedrals, art galleries and a variety of visitor attractions along with some excellent shops, restaurants and clubs.
The Wirral is a place of real beauty known to relatively few, sandwiched between the estuaries of the Dee and Mersey. The coastline is spectacular and easily accessible due to the twelve mile Wirral Way used by walkers, bikers and horse riders. The visitor centre part way along the path at Thurstaston has excellent picnic and BBQ facilities, café, bird hide, toilets and shops.
The Wirral is home to many unspoilt picturesque villages including Caldy, Burton, Shotwick, Willaston and Thornton Hough. For those interested in history there are numerous places to visit including the Birkenhead Priory and St Mary’s Tower, a Benedictine Monastery established around 1150 the oldest building on Merseyside and Lady Lever’s Art Gallery at Port Sunlight.
Mere Brook is 4 miles from Parkgate where my mother can remember being taken on days out as a child when it was a seaside resort but by the 1940s the beach had become marsh due to the silting up of this part of the Dee estuary. Parkgate is well worth a visit for a walk along the front and to sample the locally made ice cream for which it is famous. There are also four popular pubs along the front - at one end The Boat House with its conservatory overlooking the marshes, at the other end The Quay popular with families and in between The Red Lion and The Ship. All the pubs serve food but there are also two excellent restaurants Mr Chow and 1 Mostyn Square.
West Kirby (8 miles) is home to an excellent sandy beach, a thriving Sailing Club and its marina provides opportunity to partake in all types of watersports or you can simply enjoy a stroll around the marina Also a popular activity is to walk across the beach at low tide to Hilbre Island to see the grey seals.

At junction 15 of the M56 take the second exit for the M53 to Birkenhead (not Chester),
Leave the M53 at junction 4, at the roundabout take the first exit to Clatterbridge, go past the hospital on your right and you come to a roundabout with a garage in the middle of it, go straight across and then at the next smaller roundabout turn left, you will go past the rugby club on your left, continue on this road and Mere Brook House is the last but one house before the motorway bridge on the right.
