The Three Wheat Heads is a charming three hundred year old Northumbrian country pub in the attractive village of Thropton, just two miles from Rothbury and twelve miles from Alnwick in Northumberland.

Our traditional North East country pub is set amongst breathtaking views overlooking the Simonside Hills and provides bed and breakfast accommodation with luxury bedrooms. Each room has been beautifully furnished to retain its traditional character whilst being complimented with modern facilities and personal touches to make each guest welcome.

The Three Wheat Heads also has an established fine dining restaurant (mentioned in many food and drink guides) and was voted winner of The Best Sunday Lunch competition for 2007/08, run by The Northumberland Gazette. Our restaurant prides itself on serving freshly cooked, locally sourced food from the Coquet Valley area and is popular with tourists and local residents alike.

There is also a superbly furnished lounge bar with an inglenook fireplace and comfy seating to enjoy your Northumbrian ale. Ideal for pre or after dinner drinks or suitable as a function room, the Three Wheat Heads can offer the full package for your special occasion or business meeting. There are five bedrooms with a double, twin, single and family room available. All bedrooms have room service available on request to offer that luxury touch to your stay.

After a good night’s sleep, enjoy a cooked hearty Northumbrian or continental style breakfast in the dining room before visiting local attractions in the North East region. We can provide an early morning wake up call and breakfast if you have an important meeting to attend or make a delicious picnic hamper or packed lunch for you to take with you when visiting the region.

The food is superb at the Three Wheat Heads in Thropton, and you will definitely want to try the restaurant on your holiday. With this in mind, the Three Wheat Heads offers a special break rate for dinner, bed and breakfast. There are so many places to visit in Northumberland and this is a popular option when exploring the North East coastline for a few days.

After a day visiting Northumberland, you can relax in your bedroom before enjoying a drink in either of the two bars, both of which sell fine local cask ales, wines, spirits and soft drinks. On a winter’s evening there is a roaring fire in the inglenook fireplace, giving the lounge, decorated with pictures, a cosy feel.
