Chain Bridge Bed & Breakfast
Chain Bridge House is situated on the banks of The River Tweed five mikes from historic Berwick upon Tweed.
This is very much a family run business and guests can expect the warmest hospitality and help in every way. Livvy is an award winning cook with a passion for supporting local food producers and she is a member of the 'Slow Food' movement. The 'Arts and Crafts' house was built approximately 160 years ago and is the last house in England before crossing the awesome Union Chain Bridge.
Two comfortable en-suite bedrooms have oak floors, pure cotton bedlinen and fresh flowers. Livvy provides a hospitality tray of fair-trade beverages and home-made biscuits. In the spotless bathrooms find big, white fluffy towels and locally made soap. A wild, romantic garden in which a 1930's revolving summerhouse is tucked away is also home to free range hens. From the double room guests have an enviable view of the raised vegetable beds and often leave with a bag of herbs or rhubarb!
Throughout Chain Bridge House there are many books of interest which guests are welcome to peruse in their own sitting-room room beside the fire whilst staying; there is also a much loved, tuned piano if you fancy playing! The Cawthorn family have a wealth of local knowledge and are delighted to help you make the most of your visit.
Within easy reach are Holy Island, Alnwick Castle (for Harry Potter fans!), Alnwick Gardens, Kelso, The Cheviot Hills, The Farne Islands (for puffins!) The Maltings Art Centre and the famous Chain Bridge Honey Farm.
Berwick upon Tweed is home to a diverse range of visitor attractions. The Elizabethan ramparts, the finest example in Europe , take approximately 30 minutes to walk around and on a clear day give you a breath taking view down the coast to Bamburgh and Holy Island. The Maltings Art Centre is the cultural hub of the town and visitors can enjoy a full programme of live theatre, music and cinema. Berwick also hosts a number of well established festivals. Berwick Film Festival, Berwick Food and Drink Festival, Berwick Walking Festival and Berwick Book Festival to name a few.
This is a quiet, relaxing place to be where beautiful river walks, mountains of books, music and good food can be guaranteed.
