Huxham Farmhouse Bed & Breakfast
They say there’s something very special about the ley lines in this area. We don’t know much about that, but what we can vouch for is what a special place this is.
We first stumbled upon Huxham Farmhouse when looking for a place to stay while planning our exit from the grime of city life. We knew as soon as we had walked through the front door that it was for us. Our only plan on leaving at the end of weekend away was to persuade the then owners that we were the right people to buy their home. Luckily things worked out.
Huxham Farmhouse is a comfortable family home which retains many original features and is furnished in a traditional manner with antique furnishings and open wood fires. A Grade II listed building, the house is a collage of old and older still, the elegant Georgian frontage being an addition to the original farmhouse dating back to the mid 17th century which now forms a warm and cosy kitchen in the heart of the house, with various Victorian additions elsewhere. It is set in the picturesque hamlet of Huxham, with it's pretty green and surrounded by fields where sheep and cattle graze. If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the modern world, this is the place for you to recharge your batteries and enjoy the tranquility of our family home and its surroundings.
As the name implies the building was formerly a working farmhouse, most recently dairy, although earlier records show the surrounding land being popular for apple growing and the making of cider. In the early 1980's the diary ceased, the outbuildings were converted to dwellings and the main farmhouse was sold as a private residence.
The house sits within 1 acre of gardens, with an adjoining 3 acre paddock, over which we enjoy glorious uninterrupted countryside views. There is plenty of private parking and if you wish to exercise, aside from some fabulous local walks, guests are welcome to use our hard tennis court. We also have a pool/snooker table in our 'games room'.
Our own children range in age from 21 to 8, and we welcome families with children of all ages. We have a cocker spaniel, Scrumpy, who will greet you with enthusiasm to Huxham and is always on the lookout for unguarded food! He and we welcome guests with dogs.
