Drinkstone Park Bed & Breakfast
Drinkstone Park Bed and Breakfast is situated in three acres of beautiful gardens that once formed part of Drinkstone Park, a mansion built in the mid 1700’s. The mansion was demolished in 1950.
Drinkstone Park was renowned for the orchids grown here in the hot houses, mentioned in The Gardeners Chronicle 1835. The artist Gainsborough came here to paint and indeed there is a painting by Gainsborough called Drinkstone Park. He also painted Joshua Grigsby (1760 -1765), the then owner of the park.
Today the gardens include mature trees, two ponds, extensive shrubberies, herbaceous borders, an orchard and a vegetable garden. Our guests are invited to enjoy the gardens, which offer superb opportunities for relaxation, quiet contemplation, photography or painting and have magnificent views of the Suffolk countryside across the original ‘ Ha Ha’
Drinkstone Park provides a perfect base to visit such places as The historic town of Bury St Edmunds, Newmarket the home of horse racing and the National Studd, Cambridge, Thomas Gainsboroughs birth place Sudbury, Ipswich and Lavenham.
We have two double rooms available, both en-suite and with TV and tea & coffee making facilities. Both rooms are on the ground floor and one of them is directly accessible from the garden.
Breakfast is served in our dining room and is always cooked to order. Full English is our normal fayre but we are happy to provide any other on request. Eggs come from our own hens that run in our woodland; we offer home-baked bread and all our meat, fruit and preserves are sourced from the best local produce available (often from our own garden).
For a warm welcome in peaceful surroundings come to Drinkstone Park.
