Gainsborough's House is the birthplace museum of Thomas Gainsborough (1727-1788), one of England's most celebrated artists. More of his paintings, drawings and prints are on display here than anywhere else in the world. 46 Gainsborough Street in Sudbury is a charming town-house with a Georgian façade built by the artist's father. It retains features dating back more than 500 years. There is a tranquil walled garden. Among Gainsborough memorabilia to be seen in the House are the artist's studio cabinet, his sword stick and his pocket watch. The collection shows visitors the range of Gainsborough's work - portraits, landscapes, drawings and prints. Exhibitions of contemporary art and craft are shown in two galleries and in the garden.
