La Maison du Vert, Vegetarian guest house & Gourmet restaurant

A haven for vegetarians, vegans and lovers of good food in the heart of picturesque Normandy. La Maison du Vert is a small vegetarian hotel and restaurant specialising in delicious innovative vegetarian cuisine from around the world.We are right in the heart of the beautiful Normandy countryside in the small village of Ticheville. The hotel was built in 1903 using traditional red brick and originally served as the village bakery. It is set in 2.5 acres of beautiful organic flower and vegetable gardens with an old colombage 'pressoir' (cider press) and 'cave' (fermentation house) as well as the old wash house for the village.

We have 3 large double rooms with shower or bath, one of which is a family room with a double and single bed. All our rooms can take an extra folding bed or cot on request.

All our rooms have spectacular views along the unspoilt Touques Valley and the pretty village of Ticheville. Lovingly furnished to a high standard, the rooms are cleaned daily for your comfort. The beds are all good quality ensuring a good nights sleep.

There is always a vase of fresh cut flowers from our garden in the bedrooms.
Gardens

The 2.5 acre organic garden overlooks the Touques valley with wonderful views of the Normandy countryside. Our garden slopes gently downhill to the river Touques, so the other side of the valley almost appears to be part of our garden. This area is very lush with hundreds of shades of green. We are very fond of Herbaceous perennials which feature largely in the garden. We are creating a series of garden rooms with different themes. We have started to plant hedges of different types to separate the rooms, using beech, hornbeam, box and yew.

Around the terrace area where we serve meals on warm evenings, we have colourful mixed borders. Shrubs with good form and flower such as Hebe, Weigela, Cistus, Lavender, Viburnum and Ceanothus are interspersed with herbaceous spikes of Delphinium, Lupins, Campanulas, Salvias. Added colour comes from Californian and Shirley Poppies, Godetia, Clarkia, Echium, and many more.

We have a large spring-fed pond with huge koi carp that we brought from our pond in England! There is plenty of wildlife, particularly for the keen bird-watcher (we have seen kingfishers, herons, hobby, kestrel, buzzards, sparrowhawk, moorhens, green woodpecker, great and lesser spotted woodpeckers, nuthatch, treecreepers, cirl buntings, serins, hawfinches and crested tits in the garden to name a but a few!).
Our garden is a wonderful place for children to play, and enjoy the fresh air and learn about nature. Children love to join us when we feed the chickens and ducks and collect their eggs!

The Vegetarian Restaurant at La Maison du Vert is here to serve you delicious gourmet vegetarian and vegan menus with plenty of choice. Over the past 5 years our restaurant has gained an excellent reputation with locals and tourists visiting from all over the world. Our cuisine reflects this, offering flavour sensations from all corners of the globe, perfectly combined in our completely vegetarian kitchen.

Your evening starts with tasty olives served with your pre-dinner drinks which you can enjoy outside in our beautiful relaxing gardens or our comfortable guest lounge. This is followed by your choice of dishes from our current menu (see example below). We always serve our popular homemade organic bread with garden herb flavoured butters to accompany your meal.

All our dishes are home made with the freshest produce available the majority being our own home grown organic vegetables, fruit and herbs.
All of our eggs are from our free-range, well-loved chickens who live with freedom at the bottom of the garden until they are old and go to chicken heaven. We believe that the best eating experience is created out of vegetarian, organic, environmentally friendly food.

Our menu has plenty of choice for vegans and most dishes can be adapted to be vegan.

We also happily cater for special diets such as Gluten free. We don't have a children's menu as they vary so much with their tastes so we just cook them what they like to eat! Some will happily eat from the menu whilst others prefer plainer foods such as pasta or jacket potatoes. Just let us know when you book if you have any special requirements.

The restaurant is sophisticatedly decorated, with cream drapes framing the far reaching views of the French countryside from the window.
There are always fresh flowers from our garden on every table. A mix of both French and English ambient music emphasizes this relaxing atmosphere.
You can choose to eat on our garden terrace if you prefer, enjoying our beautiful gardens and lush countryside.

From our mouth-watering menu to our organic vegetarian wines, carefully chosen to complement vegetarian food, much care and attention to detail is taken.
Presentation and nutritional quality is just as important to us as the delectable taste.
We offer many different liqueurs and spirits (the famous local calvados being one important one!) cocktails and coffees, as well as a wide range of herbal and fruit teas, non-alcoholic cordials, juices, local organic apple or pear cider and bottled waters.

For the comfort of our guests La Maison du Vert is completely non-smoking.
