The château is set on an imposing hilltop with wonderful views. The surrounding mountains provide a magnificent backdrop to the aquamarine river Aspe and natural springs which meander all around the property. It is indeed a natural aquatic paradise with a long private riverfront, pristine sand and stone beaches, lagoons, coves, whirlpool and even a «treasure island. There are also ten acres of grounds with orchards, wild flower meadows, sheep, horses, woods, caves and Roman ruins to explore.

Located in the southern most part of the region Aquitaine, Les Fontaines d'Escot can be found right in the middle of the department known as Pyrenees Atlantiques. As the name suggests, this combines the Atlantic coastline with its famous resorts Biarritz and St Jean de Luz and the western range of the Pyrenees with their magnificent panoramas and soaring peaks.

At only 320m from sea level Les Fontaines nestles within the foothills of the Pyrenean national park, in the verdant and spectacular Aspe valley. The whole of the Bearn and Basque country are within easy reach. With the Spanish border only 24 miles away you can easily sample the best of two diverse cultures in one holiday.

Our location, just next to the international route RN 134 means that we are not out in the sticks, but next to a road that is open throughout the year in all weathers. This is an important fact as it guarantees, during winter, safe driving and public transport up to the new tunnel of Somport and the Spanish border with the skiing resorts of Somport, Candanchu and Astun.

To the north-west we are 45m from the elegant city of Pau with low cost flights from London Stansted and Bristol. Our nearest town, 9km away, is Oloron Ste-Marie. Here a wide range of supermarkets, chemists, bars and restaurants can cater for your every need. Oloron is renowned for its water sports such as rafting and there is also a good indoor/outdoor swimming pool. Every Friday morning there is a bustling street market. The cathedral of Ste Marie is a recognised UNESCO World Heritage site.
