The Birds House Maison de L'Oiseau
Maison de L'Oiseau is situated on the banks of the canal in the ancient ville of St. Croix. A 400 year old Breton stone cottage tastefully restored. The accommodation consists of a family suite with double bed, child bed (up 5 yrs.) and a cot is available.
There is a private bathroom with shower, bidet, toilet and basin. Sky TV in room and wifi is also available. complimentary tea and coffee are also offered. A continental breakfast (included in the room rate) is served on the patio.
There is also an additional twin bedded room which could be used by friends or members of the same family (sharing the main bathroom.)
To those in need we have for sale Beer, red or white wine. The daily rate for the months of October - March is 55€ The rate for April to September is 60€.
For those travelling by sea with Brittany Ferries we may be able to arrange a discount price.
Once settled in take a walk around the village and see the sainte-croix chapel (1060) 14th. 15th. & 16th century houses beautifully restored. Across the bridge into the town centre you will soon see why Josselin has been awarded the status of 'Petite city of character'
Guided tours of the town are available from the Tourist Information office, which is situated in one of the half timbered houses outside the chateau entrance. Check the visiting times at the Chateau to take a tour. Stop for a refreshing drink or a snack at one of the many Cafes, brasseries or bars.
Travelling north about 15 minutes to one of the largest forests in Brittany. At Broceliande you can recall the sorcery of wizard Merlin and the legend that was King Arthur and his Knights. About 40 minutes to the south and west you will find one of the most beautiful bays in the world in the inland sea of the Gulf of Morbihan. Visit Carnac and see the stunning array of megalithic stones and the Quiberon peninsula.
Le Rouvray leisure centre lake for picnics, fishing and children’s playparks. At Malensac there is a Prehistoric park for time travellers with about 30 life sized scenes from our origins. It is well worth visiting towns and villages around Josselin, they have an amazing array of churches, old chapels and manors.
Visit Lizio, it has a famous Museum of Ancient trades (Musee des vieux Metiers), an Insectarium, the Museum of the iron Poet (the Musee du Poete Ferrailleur) it has a large collection of automats all made from recycled iron. There is also a cider factory and on August 15th you can enjoy the annual craftsmen and modellers fair.
