La Monnerie

La Monnerie is situated in the heart of the Livradois Forez National Park, in the Puy de Dome region of the Auvergne. A mystical land of extinct volcanoes, forests, rivers, lakes and mountains with much to offer the visitor.

Exposed beamed ceilings, wooden floors and many original features decorate our two comfortable and homely bedrooms. There is a welcoming family kitchen/dining room where breakfast is served and we are happy to share our large and relaxing lounge with guests. Extensive grounds in which to enjoy the peace and quiet of a mountain hamlet.

Evening meal using local produce by prior arrangement.

We have a large garden, with terraced areas for relaxing, and a meadow which stretches down to the Dolore river. However, if you want to be a little more active, here are just a few suggestions:

Walking: From La Monnerie, nearby Chambon and Fournols offer a good choice of signposted walks of between 1 and 4 hours, to suit all ages and abilities.

Cycling: With very little traffic, this is perfect cycling territory and offers numerous cycle and cross country bike tracks. Mountain and quad bikes can be hired in both Fournols and St Germain.

Swimming: During July and August there is an excellent water park in Ambert, which also has an indoor pool open the rest of the year. If you need somewhere closer to cool off, the river Dolore at the bottom of our garden is great for paddling. Further afield you might like to consider Lac de Chambon for a day trip. Here you can water ski, wind surf, canoe or just laze on one of the beaches.

Fishing: The Dolore river is just 5 minutes from the house and is renowned for its trout. Let us know in advance and we can arrange a licence for you. The Allier river which runs through Issoire is also renowned for its salmon fishing

Ski-ing: The nearest ski resort is Chamazel, which usually opens from the end of December through to April. This is a small, friendly and inexpensive resort. Or you could try the bigger resorts such as the Puy de Sancy or Le Lioran, all within easy reach of La Monnerie.
