Around and About
Ernee is a typical historic French market town as yet undiscovered by the English tourists (we are the only English family living here) with a population of about 6000.

Just over the border from Brittany, we are only about an hours drive from the beautiful beaches of the Emerald Coast, and also an ideal stopover point for travellers to the West coast or southern France.

Ernée has a choice of supermarkets for basic provisions, together with an abundance of patisseries, boulangeries and other small French traditional shops. The local market is held on a Tuesday morning, and, although not big, has a wide variety of stalls with many local crafts and produce.

There are plenty of places to eat out in the town.

They vary from a self-service cafeteria to kebab house, pizza restaurant, creperie as well as quieter and more select restaurants. They are all reasonably priced and welcome families and children.

Most can speak a little English so if your French isn't too good, no problem. As with most French towns and villages, Ernée has its own lake.

The majority of these lakes are available for fishing. Permits can be purchased from various shops and tabacs for a very low cost. In the local town there is a heated swimming pool which is open to the public.

There is also a park with various amusements, including a crazy golf course and BMX track, children's adventure course in the woods, as well as the usual climbing frames, swings, etc. and the local motocross track holds various events throughout the year including the French world individual championships in 2010 (June 12 and13).

There are also various places of historical and cultural interest such as the dolmens and menhirs of the region, local sculptures and fine examples of traditional French architecture. You can also visit local farms and sample the local ciders, dairy products and meats (including the goat farm which produces various items of clothing and rugs made from their wool).

Further Afield
Mont-Saint-Michel: There are many things to see and to do; the main street with its shops, the museums, the walk around the ramparts with views out over the sands of the bay, as well as the spectacle of the sea rushing in to surround the Mont at each high tide. Other attractions include the Archeoscope (multimedia show), the Tiphaine lodge and night visits to the abbey.

La Foret de Villecartier: A miniature port has been fitted out there where young and old can navigate in mockup boats, which are copies of ferries, boats with paddle wheels or tug boats. A course of 3 km opened in July 2005 in the trees. there is also a quiet fishing lake just a short walk through the trees.

L'Ange Michel Leisure Park: With more than 30 attractions there is something for everyone including aquatics, adventure, history and culture, and even a snack bar.

There are also the usual museums, chateaux and even troglodyte caves for those keen to explore and discover the area.

How to get there
Both Rennes and Dinard airports are reasonably close (an hour to an hour and a half driving time) and have regular flights from budget airlines such as Ryanair and Flybe. Car hire is available at both airports. From St Malo to Dunkirk, ferry crossings are available at a time to suit you. Caen is the closest to us at just 2 hours drive.
