Situated less than a 10 minute drive from
2 autoroutes , the A71 Paris to Montpellier, ( exit Riom péage 11) and the A89 Lyon to Bordeaux (exit Manzat) . Les Chenes, bed and breakfast is an ideal stop over in a pretty thermal town in the centre of the Auvergne region and its only 20 minutes from the Capital of the Auvergne , Clermont Ferrand.
The town is also a good base to discover the 'Park Regional des Volcans'
The 'Puy de Dome' ( which is currently being considered for a world heritage label) can be accessed at the base by its new scenic train and will take you in comfort to the summit or for the more sportive there is a challenging but satisfying path to walk the 'Chemin de Mulatiers'which takes around 40 minutes. At the top you will find cafe and restaurant facilities with terrase and gift shop to relax and enjoy the spectacular views .
The nearby parc natural de Volcanoes can be
explored on foot with graded easy to difficult randonnees of 2 to 6 hours walking, the paths are well set out and information and maps are available from Les Chenes or the Chatel Office de Tourism at the entrance to the town
Nearby is the Spa town of Vichy which stands on the banks of the river Allier and is famous in the area for having the shops open on a Sunday afternoon! On the way you can travel through the Vallée de Sioul with its winding gorge and picturesque villages.
Clermont Ferrand is only 20 minutes away
with its Cathedral and centre historique
and not forgetting the new shopping centre
Jaude set in the Place de Jaude for all
shopaholics
In Chatel Guyon you will find a good
choice of places to eat with 3 bar/brasseries
a tea and coffee shop, 4 regional restaurants offering Auvergne cuisine and even a Pizzeria
A tourist map of the town is available
so you can take a 30 minutes walk around
and enjoy the Architecture of the 1920's
'Belle Epoque' and visit the Fresques in the Eglise St Anne . Opposite the church is the parc with the Calvaire on the highest point and this gives a 'belle vista' of the town
From June to September the open air swimming pool in the town with its children friendly bassins can be a welcome place on a hot day
