Maison du Hibou Chambres d'Hotes

Built in 1929, Maison du Hibou (The Owl House) has has an interesting history being linked to the mines at Bosmoreau-Les-Mines and owned by the same family until 2004.

The name of the 'Owl House' came about due to the amount of owls they heard during the night, calling each other in the dark.

The original community bread oven is still attached to the main house, inside the Studio, although sadly not in use.

Maison du Hibou is a small Chambres d'Hotes offering a chance to relax in the peace and quiet of the countryside and ideally located to explore the attractions of the Limousin.

For the motorcyclist, we can offer:-

The use of relevant tools and compressor, bike lift and bike knowledge if needed, and
Recovery trailer for the unexpected bike trouble

Further, we have ample parking in our barns for your motorcycle for up to 10 bikes (or car of course) behind steel framed lockable doors.

PLEASE NOTE, Maison du Hibou has a strict Non Smoking Policy throughout the House and Studio. Smoking is permitted in a designated area within the garden, with cigarette bins available. Smoking elsewhere in the garden is prohibited, especially in dry conditions, due to the nearby hay fields. Sadly we are unable to accept pets.

We cannot offer the games room, the swimming pool, chill out barn etc but what we can offer you is a break from the rat race, in peaceful and beautiful countryside and a warm welcome and stories to share of the great roads, places to visit and countryside of the Limousin

The property is set in an acre of ground, and is surrounded by rolling fields and hills and the wildlife is abundant. Deer graze in the nearby fields at dusk, frogs can be occasionally heard croaking; evidence of foxes and hedgehogs can be seen, and just outside the front door there are copious amounts of various species of wild birds landing on the bird tables, in fact the moment you step out of the front door, your exploration begins.

Wild boar roam the woodlands and in spring and autumn hundreds of cranes undertake their annual migration.

If you want to relax and unwind or try something more energetic or adventurous, then this is the place to visit as the Creuse is stunning in all weathers and is one of the least populated areas of France making it rather unique. It allows visitors to relax and unwind 'getting away from it all' without the hustle and bustle like other parts of France; and there is something for everyone.
