B&B Mulino Barchio
B&B Mulino Barchio, a former water-mill built around 1877, is set in 21 acres of farmland, including an orchard and a vineyard which produces the white wine Verdicchio. On our property we also have a natural spring and a river. All the rooms have outstanding views over the land, the vineyard, Mount St. Vicino (1500 meters high) and the enchanting hills of Le Marche
Our Bed and Breakfast is located near Cupramontana (3 kms), capital of the Verdicchio wine region, among the rolling hills in the heart of Le Marche. We are 25 minutes from Ancona airport. To the east is the Adriatic Sea and to the west are the mountains of the Umbria-Marche Appenines.
We cater for, and welcome, families, couples, groups and the single traveller. Our accommodation consists of four spacious double bedrooms (2 of which have an additional bed).
Our wish is to welcome you to our home and to provide you with a comfortable, relaxed and friendly environment in which you can unwind, explore and enjoy the countryside and taste the local produce - food, olive oil, honey and wine.
Cupramontana, originally founded in the 6th century BC (historic churches & only wine label museum in the world), is located just outside one of Italy's best regional parks, which has the Frasassi Caves, largest natural caves in Europe .
There are other interesting historic towns such as Staffolo, Cingoli (also called 'The balcony of Le Marche) and the medieval walled town of Jesi with its renowned Theatre Pergolesi which hosts an excellent variety of Opera, ballet and classical music concerts.
Near the B&B there are ancient sites which are well worth a visit:
- L' Eremo dei Frati Bianchi:- (White Friars' hermitage) inhabited by the friars since the year 1000 but the actual hermitage was built in the 15th century. L'Eremo is situated in the middle of a large wood which is also a protected floral area. A wonderfully peaceful place with a walking path - perfect for a quiet walk.
- La Chiesa di San Giacomo della Romita:- built in the 13th century with a good restaurant attached (formerly a hermitage).
- L'Abbazia Del Beato Angelo:-An abbey dating from at least 1180.
Cupramontana itself has wonderful historic buildings such as La Chiesa di San Lorenzo, built between 1770 and 1787 which hosts paintings by Pietro Locatelli di Roma (1640-1710), the Palazzo Comunale (County Hall) which was built in 1777 and houses the public library founded in 1872 and the Wine Label Museum which is based in the Palazzo Leoni built in the late 1700's. The museum is the only one in the world and contains some 100,000 wine labels from around the world - some of them date from the first years of the 19th century.
Cupramontana also hosts La Sagra dell'uva, the largest wine festival in Italy which is held in September to celebrate the wine harvest.
Other beautiful locations to visit are Serra San Quirico and Genga which are in the regional park Gola Della Rossa and di Frasassi. This park has breathtaking limestone cliffs and also Le Grotte di Frasassi, world famous caves with tiny lakes, stalactites and stalagmites. The caves can be visited all year round.
Near Cupramontana you can also visit the city of Macerata with its outdoor Opera Festival in July and August and the town of Fabriano, famous as a producer of paper since the 13th century.
SEASIDE:
Most of the beaches and coastline on the Adriatic Sea are reachable from our B&B in around 30 minutes. North of Ancona you can go to the beautiful sea resorts of Pesaro (birthplace of the composer Rossini), Fano and Senigallia with its 'velvet beach'.
Just south of Ancona you can reach mount Conero, a huge striking calcareous rock standing out along the coast to form about 20 kms of coves and bays, including the enchanting Portonovo bay. The sea water here is crystal clear and has the Blue Flag of Europe. The whole area around Mount Conero is protected as regional park. The 'Riviera of Conero' also includes the picturesque resorts of Sirolo, Numana and Marcelli.
MOUNTAIN:
The jewel of the Marche region is the Monti Sibillini area. These mountains became a National Park in 1993 and cover a huge area. Some of these mountains reach over 2,ooo meters and there is skiing in Winter.
You can also reach the beautiful towns of Assisi in Umbria (90 km), Gubbio (70 km) and also nearby Tuscany.
