Ayen Cottage bed & breakfast
Islay is one of the Hebridean Isles situated on the gulf stream, so the warm winds caress the coastline, encouraging many unusual types of flora and fauna.
Ayen cottage is set on top of a hill in its own woodland offering stunning views from every aspect.
It is a small bed and breakfast, just two rooms providing a personal service and plenty of peace and tranquillity.
If it is whisky that brings you to Islay, we are near to Coal Ila and Bunnahabain distilleries, the journey to both offers the best views across The Sound of Islay. We can book tours or arrange travel to and from the distilleries, allowing you to enjoy a dram. (or two.)
If it is history that woos you, the island is steeped in it, Finlaggin is where the Lord of the Isles held court for some 500 years.
The Kidalten cross is one of the finest examples of early Christian crosses to be found intact.
If you go to the Oa you can visit the American monument erected in memory of the Americans who perished when the Tuscania was torpedoed and sank in 1918.
There are over 100 species of bird on Islay every single day! Bird watchers cannot fail to spot something of interest. The R.S.P.B hold guided walks every Thursday through out the year.
There are also many walks and pathways that enable you to appreciate the full beuaty and peace of the Island.
There are many freshwater lochs for which you can obtain a fishing permit.
Bike hire is also available.
We can book reservations at local eating places, book car hire, arrange taxis and fishing permits as well as booking distillery tours. In fact, we will try our best to offer you the perfect holiday on Islay, (although we can do nothing about the weather!)
