Riverside Cottage Bed & Breakfast
Riverside cottage is a traditionally built modern house with all the comforts expected today including under-floor heating in all rooms, satellite TV, ensuite bathrooms, welcome tray etc. Ben Cruachan can be seen from the cottage and is a must do for munro baggers.
We just down the single track road is one of Scotland’s premier fisheries.
There are also 4 derelict castles on the Loch and the pass of brander the site of one of Robert the Bruce's famous battles.
The Fly fishing World championships have just been held on Loch Awe, your host at riverside cottage is the fishing warden for northern Loch Awe, so if you are interested free up to date advice is available to all guests. Boat hire can be arranged locally, this is often taken up by non-fishermen who simply wish to visit the castles or Burial Island which can only be reached by boat. Also the wildlife on the Loch is much more accessible by boat with Osprey, Black and Red throated divers, Golden Eagles and if you are very lucky an otter.
At riverside cottage itself Otter, Pine Marten, Red Squirrel, Red Deer, Roe Deer have all been seen in the garden. In my duties as Warden I have also seen Scottish Wildcats.
10 minutes down the road is the historic town of Inveraray with many shops and restaurants and Inveraray castle the seat of the Duke of Argyll.
Oban is 45 minutes away and the main town of the area with all the facilities you could expect. Oban is also the main ferry terminal for trips out to the isles; a day out on mull is possible whilst staying at riverside cottage.
