The Desmond House Bed & Breakfast

Guests take a step back in time when staying the Desmond House. Built in 1905, it features the Queen Ann style of architecture. The home is furnished with an eclectic blend of antiques and period lighting that create a warm and inviting atmosphere suitable for any romantic getaway.

As I open my home to travelers venturing away from their own homes and comfortable surroundings, my hope is that they will find comfort, peace and solitude while staying at The Desmond House. It has been all of that and more to me on my personal journey to create this beautiful space.

The Desmond Room
This romantic master suite, named after John T. Desmond who built the house in 1905, includes a queen bed, antique dresser, and night stands. Careful searching went into locating the perfect antique lighting for the Desmond Room. The room includes an attached private bathroom with shower. Plush bathrobes are provided.

The Brooks Room
The Brooks Room is named after Thomas Brooks (1811-1887), an important Brooklyn cabinetmaker, who supplied the New York market throughout the Mid-nineteenth century. He ran a successful furniture making business at the corner of Fulton and Sand streets, near the entrance to the Brooklyn Bridge. He made a variety of elegant Victorian renaissance revival furniture such as bedroom sets, cabinets, bookcases, and tables, all of which are some of the most sought after American Victorian antiques in the world today. Many of his pieces are on display at the Brooklyn Museum.

The Brooks room features two pieces of furniture made by Mr. Brooks in about 1867, one being the unique bed. Sleeping in this bed is like taking a step back in time when true craftsmen made furniture with care.
The room includes an attached private bathroom with shower. Plush bathrobes are provided.

While visiting, enjoy some of the many activities the Redding, CA area has to offer.

Clear Creek Soap Company
Located in Beautiful Happy Valley, Shasta County, California. Clear Creek Soaps are made in small batches to ensure consistent quality. Soaps are made using the Cold Process method. Each batch starts with an indulgent composition of luxury oils: Olive Oil, Coconut Oil, and Palm Oil, unless otherwise stated. These Fine soaps are also offered to all guests staying at The Desmond House B and B.

River Trail – Walk or Bike
The river corridor provided a unique opportunity to develop an urban trail system within several miles of lush riparian habitat. Ten miles of trails have been built so far, connecting residential neighborhoods to regional parks, federal open spaces, the 220-acre Turtle Bay Exploration Park and, most recently, to a regional commercial district.

Redding Convention Center
The Redding Convention Center is located near downtown Redding in a protected open space, surrounded by the beautiful Sacramento River, the Turtle Bay Exploration Park, and the magnificent Sundial Bridge. It will accommodate over 2,000 people in plush, cushion-type seats. The downstairs area, which consists of Orchestra and Dress Circle, contains 1200 seats. The Balcony areas, seating people on both sides and the rear of the theater, has a seating capacity of 822.

Cascade Theatre
The Cascade Theatre has always been a special place. In 1935, the year the Cascade first opened, the theatre was capable of seating over 20% of Redding’s total population. In its heyday, the Cascade offered Shasta County residents a place to escape from the daily struggle of life during the depression, a place to experience the wonders of the latest cinema technology and a place for the community to come together – for first dates, birthdays and community celebrations.
Today, the Cascade Theatre is still a special place in the hearts and minds of Redding’s citizens. Today the Cascade is special to both longtime residents and newcomers alike because it stands as a proud symbol of Redding’s history, serves as a powerful catalyst for downtown economic revitalization and provides a venue for a diverse array of arts and cultural events that celebrate the human spirit.

Sundial Bridge
The Sundial Bridge at Turtle Bay is a beautiful, unique pedestrian bridge that crosses the Sacramento River and connects the Nationally-designated trail system in Redding, California, with the Turtle Bay Exploration Park and McConnell Arboretum.
Turtle Bay Exploration Park & McConnell Arboretum
Turtle Bay Exploration Park is a sprawling 300-acre campus filled with educational and entertaining activities all focused on the interpretation of the relationship between humans and nature. Spanning the Sacramento River and linked by the Sundial Bridge, the Park tells the story of the region and its people.
Redding Events and Recreation from Enjoy Magazine
Enjoy the magazine, it’s on the house” has been the invitation on the cover of Enjoy since it was launched in October 2006 as Northern California’s premier lifestyle magazine.

The Desmond House Wand to Pamper You

1. Hosts who Really Care
When the owner is also the front desk clerk, you know that they are passionate about their property and want to share that passion with their guests. When is the last time someone carried your bags to your room or asked you whether you like pancakes or French Toast for breakfast? You will feel warm and welcomed when you check in to The Desmond House.

2. Get to Know the Best Places in Town
Forget about the rack of sightseeing pamphlets you often see in the lobby of chain hotels. Your innkeeper is your best source for information about the local area. Greg Reimann can recommend the best restaurants and area attractions. He’ll tell you where to shop for the best prices and even direct you to the local beauty shop.

3. Every Room is Different
Unlike the cookie cutter approach of a national hotel chain, every guest room is decorated in a different way. Different rooms may have different colored walls, curtains or other features. Not all rooms are the same size. Some B&Bs will name their rooms to reflect the theme of the room. As an example, you might check into the Desmond Room or the Brooks Room.

4. A Relaxing Place – Just Like Home
Stress is not part of the guest experience. You can stroll around the grounds or just take in the view while enjoying your breakfast. There is no hassle parking your car and check-in or check-out is a snap. Your innkeeper will do everything in his power to make sure your stay is comfortable and relaxing.

5. Affordable
People do not realize that Bed and Breakfast hotels are quite affordable. Most of these facilities depend upon word of mouth advertising to attract customers. Owners are often very willing to offer discounts or special deals to bring in more guests during the slow times of the year.

6. The Bed and the Breakfast
Living up to their category in the hospitality industry, you will almost always find a very comfortable mattress, fluffy pillows and high quality sheets. Breakfast is also a big focus. Some B&B owners will go all out and cook you a custom omelet or other breakfast specialty. Others will opt for a deluxe continental break
