Your host, Tim and Christine, have created a working, off-the-grid-homestead. With the nearest power almost two miles away, photovoltaic solar panels provide most of the homestead's power with a generator providing back-up during the dark winter months.
Rainwater collected in large underground cisterns supply most of the water for the home with drinking water hauled in from a natural Montana spring. An Amish built wood cookstove provides heats during the cold winter months.
An organic garden, chickens, ducks and goats round out the homestead. Tim and Christine's hobbies include Boy Scouts, woodworking, blacksmithing, quilting, canning and cutting copious amounts of firewood.
