The historic market town of Ruthin is just 2 miles away. Ruthin has a choice of good restaurants and, if you like tea and cakes, what we think is the best tea shop in Wales. Ruthin still has a good range of independent shops, including jewellery, clothes shops, collectables and a great delicatessen. It's easy to spend an enjoyable afternoon exploring this delightful medieval town and if you want something a bit more modern, try Ruthin Craft Centre. This opened in 2008 and won the Dewi-Prys Thomas Design Prize in 2009. It has three galleries and exhibits the best in international contemporary applied art.
Further afield, the great castles of Conwy and Caernarfon are less than an hour's drive and the historic city of Chester is about 40 minutes away.
If you are drawn by the great outdoors, North Wales presents a wealth of walking opportunities for all interests and abilities, from a gentle stroll in the forest to the challenges offered by two of the best known long distance walks: Offa’s Dyke and the Clwydian Way.
Coed Llandegla mountain bike centre is just 20 minutes away. The forest has a range of mountain biking trails suitable for beginners and family groups through to more challenging routes for experienced bikers.
All tracks are completely enclosed within the forest, with no main roads to cross. The Visitor Centre has a great café with award winning bacon baps!
