Balamku is a new breed of resort in the Costa Maya region, one of Mexico's hidden treasures.

We are in the southern area of the Yucatan Peninsula, just south of a little fishing village, Mahahual in a natural, unspoiled environment with a community of friendly people.

At Balamku, we have created a beautiful setting that respects the natural surroundings.

We are committed to providing comfort and quality services using the resources of nature without abusing the environment.

Our respect for the environment, focus on ecotourism and intimate surroundings, will suit travellers who want a change from the large resorts.

Whether you like snorkelling and scuba diving (just off our shore and also at the world-famous Chinchorra Reef), kayaking, deep sea fishing, horseback riding, birding and hiking, investigating Mayan ruins, or just taking it easy, your time at Balamku will be relaxed and as diverse as you want.

Balamku can easily accommodate groups who would like to reserve the inn for their private use. It is perfect for retreats.

Balamku has 9 rooms available at this time. You will stay in beautifully designed thatched roof Mayan - style palapas - with a difference.

We know you'll appreciate the comforts of fine linens and towels as well as the tastefully decorated furnishings that feature Mexican art. All units have bathrooms with showers, hot water, biodegradable soap and shampoo, 24 hour electricity, beautifully tiled floors, one queen and one single bed, ceiling fans and the luxurious feeling of 10' ceilings.

Internet is available in the Lounge for guests. We now have internet access in most rooms if you bring your own laptop.

We also have a gift shop with Mexican crafts and silver jewellery. Books on the local birds and animals, as well as good novels, are here for your enjoyment. Watching videos in your room can also be arranged.

Every unit is on the beach and faces the beautiful Caribbean Sea.

Currently, we only provide breakfast and a limited lunch menu. A basket lunch for day trips can be arranged as well.

Bar and specialty coffees are available in the afternoon.

Breakfasts, included in your daily rate, feature fresh fruits, yogurt, home-made bread, granola, eggs, and our organic coffee and teas.

Our clients tell us that they enjoy trying the many different restaurants in and around Mahahual. Two restaurants are walking distance from us.

We have coolers for your rooms if you wish to purchase snacks and beverages in town.

At Balamku, you will want to relax and be with the beauty of nature. There are countless varieties of birds (orioles, jays, flycatchers, hummingbirds and sea birds, especially) many butterflies and interesting iguanas to observe as you walk/hike in our area.

Scuba Diving and Snorkelling at Chinchorro, the largest atoll in Mexico and home to hundreds of fish, seabirds. This exceptional day trip to Chinchorro Biosphere Reserve, is considered an ecotourist's paradise. Lunch on the atoll with the fishermen can be arranged.

You can also learn to dive and do coastal dives. There are a few dive shops in Mahahual to choose from for both coastal diving and Chinchorro.
