Casa Machaya Oaxaca Bed & Breakfast
We are unique among Bed & Breakfast Oaxaca accommodations in that we rent our one single guest unit, a complete level of the home we spent 4 years building in the city of Oaxaca, with spectacular vistas, yet minutes from downtown.
Your private accommodations consist of: fully equipped eat-in kitchen (14' x 14'); bed-sitting-room with queen bed, futon, TV, settee (19' x 13'); landscaped patio with comfy chairs (20' x 22'); washroom; optional childrens' bedroom. Even a crib if travelling with an infant, and high chair, car seat and babysitting services.
You get the comfort and services of Oaxaca hotels with the personal touch of a B & B, Our Oaxacan architect assured our home of traditional construction, flare and colour, while our North American penchant for comfort enables you to be confident that you'll have those little touches at your feet such as an abundance of hot water, satellite TV, toaster, coffee maker, a cot in the open air kitchen for snoozing, and more.
Your Canadian hosts are your resource guides, to the extent you want assistance in making your vacation as rich a cultural experience as possible. Tour guiding services available are unmatched in Oaxaca...we'll design a customized route for a day or two to meet your specific interests be they craft villages (black pottery, textiles, alebrijes, rugs, etc), ruins, mezcal factory touring and tasting, market days and more. If you're interested in ecotourism or bird watching for example, we'll connect you with the right people.
For Spanish language classes, similarly we'll make sound recommendations and tell you why one is set apart from others. Private cooking lessons are available by a renowned Mexican chef (with translation of course). Shop in the market for produce, herbs and meats, and then return home to our large traditional cocina and assist in the preparation of one of the seven famous moles (you get to choose what we'll be preparing). Chat, drink and enjoy your comida.
Our guests keep telling us that the cooking experience is one of their best days ever in Mexico, with a meal superb. Oaxaca is our passion. Our rates are extremely competitive.
We are a semi-retired couple in our fifties, well integrated into the native Oaxacan community so as to enable us to assist you in many ways. Our guest guide is very detailed and helpful as well, providing suggestions regarding touring, cautionary notes regarding travelling and staying in a southern Mexico locale, and even includes restaurant reviews we've prepared.
If it's art and galleries that peak your interest, we even have a walking tour of the main art galleries.
A quaint walking path is about a two-minute walk from the house, from which on a clear day you can see Monte Albán.
We live in a very safe and secure neighbourhood, above the city, yet only a ten-minute drive from the Zócalo (we'll drive you downtown weekday mornings, and there's also bus and taxi service close by). Enjoy our magical city.
