Penpark Country House Bed & Breakfast

Penpark is a beautiful country house situated on the south - eastern edge of the Dartmoor National Park, about a mile from the village of Bickington. It was designed in the 1920s by famous English architect Clough Williams Ellis (who built the village of Portmeirion in Wales.)

The house stands on a hilltop with wonderful panoramic views of surrounding farmland and countryside. The view from the house and the terrace where guests can relax is quite spectacular.

The house is approached by a tarmac drive which leads you up to the house and round to the front door. There are 5 acres of gardens and woodland consisting of both formal lawns and flowerbeds around the house and informal shrubs and borders which drift into woodland.

There is a two - tone green tennis court for visitors to use but correct tennis shoes must always be worn.

The largest room can be a double or twin with two 3' beds which zip together. This room has wonderful views and has a balcony overlooking the gardens and woodland beyond. The second double room has a queen size double bed and has lovely views too.

All the rooms are beautifully furnished and have wonderful views of the gardens and countryside beyond. A spacious hallway leads to the sitting room where guests can relax, and also to the dining room.

There is a garden room on the lower ground floor level with three double glazed doors which open out onto the lawn. This unusual lovely spacious room has a green slate floor with colourful rugs. It has a double bed and a modern double sofa bed if needed and a shower and loo next door.

Guests are in a separate part of the house here and can enjoy their own space and come and go via the door into the garden.

Penpark is ideally situated for exploring Devon, Dartmoor and the coast.

We are 25 minutes from Exeter and 30 minutes from Plymouth. There are historic houses such as Saltram near Plymouth; castles such as Castle Drogo near Chagford and many beautiful gardens and nurseries to visit.

Dartington Hall near Totnes is nearby where many musical and cultural events take place including their International Summer School and the now very popular Way With Words fortnight held each July.

There are lovely coastal walks to enjoy and the whole of Dartmoor with its charming villages and historic sites to explore.

There are golf courses and horse riding stables nearby and wonderful walking country on the doorstep.
