The Cobblers Restaurant with Rooms
The Cobblers is a small restaurant with three letting rooms in the beautiful east Devon town of Colyton, close to Lyme Regis, Seaton, Sidmouth and Honiton.
A good location for walks, sightseeing and the Jurassic coast. All rooms en suite have televisions and tea and coffee making facilities.
Colyton is an historic medieval town nestling in the Axe Valley 4 miles inland from the coast. The circular street arrangement, often referred to as a maze is typically Saxon and the narrow winding streets are lined with picturesque stone built houses. Wander around the antique centre for a bargain. Track down the hardware store, an Aladdin's cave. Try the award winning butcher, gift shop, cycle shop, and shops for all the daily essentials.
There are 2 art galleries and a tool shop. A garden shop can be found near the country's last remaining oak bark tannery. St Andrew's Church is large and impressive and well worth a visit. There is thought to have been a Saxon church on this site before AD700, and the Norman structure is built on Saxon foundations. The unusual octagonal tower was installed in the 15th century when Colyton was one of the three richest wool towns in Devon.
The 'Lantern' Tower was used as a beacon for ships on the once navigable River Axe, to the east. The nearby Vicarage dates from 1529. The Cobblers has Wi Fi connection. The Restaurant is open Thursday to Sunday and offers lunch, a la carte dinners and Sunday lunch carvery.
In the evening we are open every night except Wednesday. The Cobblers is run by Russel Porter and Caroline Galt who have many years experience in catering. Russel is the chef and trained at Cassio College in Watford. He has worked in many high-class restaurants in London and in hotels for Trust House Forte.
Caroline runs front of house and trained in Cheltenham and worked in hotels for Trust House Forte.
