Bay Cottage Guest House

Bay Cottage Guest House is an ideal base for you if you are planning a holiday beside the sea and want to explore Paignton, Brixham, Torquay, Dartmoor and South Devon. You can order a traditional cooked breakfast which is ideal before a day of walking and exploring the local countryside. Alternatively, you can choose a lighter breakfast if you want a quiet, more relaxing day strolling along the seafront or visiting the nearby music pubs.

Paignton is close to a number of National Trust Homes and Gardens so the Guest House is an ideal base from which you can explore these jewels in South Devon.

If you stay at Bay Cottage, you will only be a few minutes walk from Paignton town centre and just 150 metres from the seafront!

We have recently taken over the running of Bay Cottage and have exciting plans for the future! We intend to refurbish each bedroom, one at a time, to provide a haven for couples in search of a seaside break. Regrettably we no longer accommodate children.

Breakfast is served in our light and airy Dining Room every morning between 0830 and 0900. Help yourself to the cereal bar while your breakfast cooks. You can choose between Cornflakes, Weetabix and Swiss Style Museli. Other cereals can be provided on request. Also help yourself to White or Brown Toast before your cooked breakfast is brought to you. Orange and apple juice are available as well as Tea and Coffee. If you prefer Decaf Tea or Coffee or would rather have a Speciality Tea, please ask us for these options on arrival.

Your traditional cooked breakfast can include any of the following; succulent sausage and bacon, baked beans, juicy cooked tomatoes, traditional black pudding, fried mushrooms and crispy fried bread. You can choose between a fried egg, a lightly poached egg or perfectly cooked scrambled egg.

Vegetarians are also catered for. Your vegetarian breakfast can include any of the following; vegetarian sausage, baked beans, grilled tomatoes, fried mushrooms and crispy fried bread.

If a traditional fry-up is too much for you, why not select something from our mini menu? Choose 3 options on toast and enjoy a smaller cooked breakfast without consuming too many calories!

All rooms have private en suite facilities and most have shaver points. The complimentary beverage tray is re-stocked daily. You can choose between Nescafe Coffee or Fairtrade Tea and we also supply biscuits, sugar, sweetener and milk.

Complimentary toiletries include Miller & Mason Shampoo and Shower Gel as well as a lovely scented hand wash.

A variety of magazines have been placed in each room should you not wish to watch TV. There is central heating throughout the guest house and in each room the windows can be opened. Most rooms have access to free WiFi.

Bay Cottage is within easy walking distance of many pubs and restaurants, including The Spinning Wheel, The Harvester, Murphy’s Roadhouse, The Inn on the Green and The Lion’s Monocle. Oggy Oggy and St Mary’s Bakery are good for lunch on the go and tea.

You don’t have to drive anywhere once you’re in Paignton. Take the train (or steam train!) to your destination - the station is only 10 - 15 minutes walk from our front door. Alternatively take the 22 bus to Torquay and Exmouth. The bus stop is about 5 minutes walk from the Guest House at Victoria Park. Sit back and ride everywhere and enjoy your day out more without having to worry about traffic or parking.

BMAD (Bikers Make A Difference) is a huge event every May Bank Holiday. Thousands of motorbikes can be seen lining the seafront and other attractions include a music tent, funfair and a mini market selling clothes and food on the Green. The aim of the event is to raise money for charity, including The Air Ambulance, St Johns Ambulance, Devon Freewheelers (Blood Bikes) and the Torbay Young Carers.

Torbay Air Show takes place during the first weekend of June. Air displays are guaranteed to thrill with the aeroplanes flying over the bay making this show a safe one for spectators. This event is free, but parking needs to be purchased beforehand. Travel by train or coach and stay overnight with us!

If you’re a National Trust member, Paignton is the perfect place to stay. From Paignton you can easily visit Coleton Fishacre, Bradley, Parke and The Church House. There are also a number of National Trust walks in the area, including Brownstone and Coleston Camp, Little Dartmouth and Hembury and Holne Woods. And, if you are an Agatha Christie fan, a visit to Greenway is not to be missed. Take the steam train from Paignton to Greenway and then either take the Shuttle Bus to the house, or walk through the beautiful Devonshire countryside to your destination.
