Bed & Breakfast Portugal O Tartufo
Welcome to O Tartufo, Bed and Breakfast near Moncarapacho in the Algarve, Portugal
Unwind in the Algarve of Portugal! Let yourself be surrounded by Portuguese country life and be close to the beaches too. O Tartufo is an attractive and extraordinary Bed and Breakfast just outside of Moncarapacho. The atmosphere at O Tartufo in southern Portugal breathes tranquillity. The Bed and Breakfast is situated in the beautiful Algarve near Moncarapacho and the small village near the ocean, Fuseta. It's just 4 kilometres to the ocean.
We have renovated our bed and breakfast and have totally renewed parts of it in the first months of 2011! Each room is designed with care and the whole house breathes a relaxed atmosphere. You will find a lot of Moorish and Moroccan details in this B&B. In the old Quinta (Portuguese country house) it is nice and cool in summer due to the thick walls and nice and cosy in winter thanks to the wood burners. A small apartment is situated in the green courtyard. The green courtyard has lovely little seating areas and two more double rooms, each with a cosy living room. In the old Quinta are three double rooms and two single rooms.
The garden at the front of O Tartufo has a lot of small places to relax in the shade, but for the real sun lovers we have a big roof terrace to enjoy the sun, read a book or enjoy a meal!
Moncarapacho is situated in the Algarve of south Portugal. In the Western parts of the Algarve you can find more tourists, in the area east of Faro towards the Spanish border, the Algarve belongs more to the Portuguese. The 150 kilometre coastal area also defines local cuisine. Many delicious fish dishes can be enjoyed in the many small restaurants. Local favourites are sardinhas assadas (grilled sardines) and cataplana (rich sea fruit dish served in a copper stewing pot called: the cataplana). Or try a local dessert consisting of stuffed figs, figos cheios!
Moncarapacho has around 7.500 inhabitants and is situated 5 kilometres from the Atlantic ocean. A large part of the coast east of Faro is a protected natural park: Ria Formosa. Small and ever changing islands dot the coast. Friendly fishermen use their boats in from spring to early autumn to help people across for a small fee, mostly only 50 cent. The beaches can be found on the southern parts of those islands. The Laguna dry out with outgoing tide and a host of birds swoop in to find their favourite dishes in the still wet Laguna.
Fuseta is a small fishing town, three kilometres from Bed and Breakfast O Tartufo. Water taxi's help you get across to the small island in front of the coast. Fuseta has a big flea market on the first Sunday of every month (except for august) where you can browse around for that one unique antique. Fuseta has many little bars and restaurants where you can enjoy a fresh beer after a hard day of relaxing.
The city of Tavira can be found at a distance of only 15 kilometres from Moncarapacho. With it´s 25.000 inhabitants it is a bit bigger and it has a very lively city centre. A definite recommendation from the owners, as Tavira was their first port of call in the Algarve around 7 years ago on a summers holiday.
Tip: Try a small glass of fig-liquor from our neighbours, they own a small bar 500 metres from O Tartufo!
